Vacation to the island of St. Barts

Travel Requirements

You will need a valid passport in order to enter the island and you must have a return or a continuation of travel ticket to show when you are leaving. This is necessary because if you plan on staying for more than 30 days you will need a valid visa but any less than 30 days and just a valid passport is fine.

Transportation

The most common way to get to St. Barts is by the air but instead of flying directly to the island, you will fly into Princess Juliana airport in St. Maarten and then take a quick 15-minute flight on a charter plane from St. Maarten to St. Barts. Another option is to take a ferry from St. Maarten to St. Barts and that takes around 40 minutes. Both options usually cost no more than $25 USD.

Accommodations

St. Barts is one of the most expensive places to vacation due to almost everything on the island having to be imported from different countries around the world. There are many upscale villas you can stay in but they go for around $20,000 a night. For something a little more budget-friendly you can stay in one of the 30 hotels located on the island that range from $600 to $900 a night during traveling season.

Activities

Activities include exploring the over 60 restaurants with all different types of cuisine from a multitude of cultures around the world and many of these restaurants carry gourmet-quality ratings. You can visit the white-sanded beaches all around the island, the almost crystal clear blue water allows for an amazing snorkeling environment and all the beaches are lined with high-quality restaurants and high-end shopping. Although the national currency is the Euro so everything is priced in Euros, vendors will gladly accept USD as they are aware that most vacationers arrive from America. There is also the St. Barts Film Festival in early April with is a popular tourist event and due to how expensive it is to stay on the island it never gets too crowded as most people can’t afford it and usually visit the other islands in the Caribbean for a cheaper stay.

Total Costs

The average cost for two people to visit St. Barts for a week is around $3,822. Although it is imperative that you keep in mind that since the food and shopping is very high quality and imported it will cost significantly more than what you may be used to if you have visited any of the other islands and this is why St. Barts is the island of choice for most celebrities as they can afford it and due to the high cost they know they will be left alone from media and fans. If you do visit and you see a celebrity it is a big no-no to ask for a picture or an autograph as St. Barts wants to remain a place that celebrities can find refuge from the public.

    This was a very informative guide for a trip to St. Barts. Maybe you could also include a section for best nightlife spot, a local favorite meal, or drink . Overall great job, keep it up!

Blog Post #4: Getting to know Saint-Barthélemy

The island is very small only spanning 11 miles in length and 2.5 miles in width making the island smaller than many cities in most major countries. Due to this the Island only has one town, the capital of Gustavia. Although the island is now part of France and it was first colonized by them as well, the town of Gustavia was named after Sweden’s king, Gustav III, who was king of Sweden from 1771 until his assassination in 1792. The town is his namesake because the Island was sold to Sweden in 1784 with King Gustav III overseeing the transaction and the Island belonged to the Swedish for almost a century until 1878 when the Island was returned to the French due to it being ravaged by a large hurricane causing the economy to once again struggle. It was Sweden that brought slaves to the island in 1790 although there were never any slave plantations on the island due to the limited space and the mountainous geography. Blog Post #5: Self Assesment

  In terms of the rubric criteria, my blog almost meets all the criteria. I need to remember to put my sources, I’ve done it for some but not for others so if I can consistently ass my sources at the end of my posts then my blog should great in terms of the rubric. There aren’t any aspects of these assignments that I would say are confusing or cause stress, I enjoy writing and doing research so all of this has been quite enjoyable actually. I do put my best effort into each post all though I definitely procrastinate. I don’t really have trouble completing the work when I get around to doing it, the hurdle is just getting around to doing it. But have gotten better with my time management, it seems that I lost all of those skills over the long winter break. But when I do the blog post I revise the writing extensively, bad grammar is a huge pet peeve of mine and I truly don’t think I can physically submit an assignment that isn’t good quality because I will constantly think about the ...
